Introducing the House of Welcome
![]() |
The House of Welcome originated from a local need. It was founded in 2005 when Ballarat woman, Carmel Kavanagh discovered disadvantaged students studying in her home town. The House is a registered charity and a non-profit, community organisation staffed and managed entirely by volunteers. All funds raised go directly to the support of those most in need. |
The House of Welcome Ballarat reaches out to local families, the homeless, refugees and other vulnerable
people in our community.
The House works in partnership with a range of agencies to provide accommodation, education, medical care,
social interaction, employment, immigration processes and access to legal support.
Volunteers offer friendship and reassurance, provide cultural exchange and advice, assist with immigration
issues, accompany people to medical appointments, help them to access social benefits and assist with
fundraising.
Your donations are welcome to keep us functioning as a safe haven for the most vulnerable people and
families in our community and are greatly appreciated.
No offering is too small. CONTACT US to donate or see HOW THE HOUSE HELPS to donate food,
toiletries, vouchers, etc.
URGENT CALL OUT
Dear Friends and Supporters
As you know, the House supports families in distress, the homeless, refugees, people seeking asylum and any
vulnerable people in our community.
In the past we have raised the funds for this work by holding events such as sausage sizzles, our Soup &
Sandwich Luncheon at Nazareth House and our annual Garden Party in November.
In these difficult days of Covid 19 such gatherings are not possible, yet people must still eat and pay their bills.
Therefore, we are asking our supporters to donate what they can to enable us to continue providing these essential services.
We understand that many of you are facing financial hardship too. However, for those who are able to donate,
whatever you can afford to give, whether a one-off contribution or regular donation will be much appreciated.
If we could find one hundred people able to donate $10 per month, we would be able to
operate comfortably. Could you be one?
The House is a registered charity and your donations are tax deductible. No monies are lost in administration
costs. The House of Welcome is operated entirely by volunteers and all donations go directly to those in need.
We desperately need extra funds to see us through these difficult days.
To make a single payment at any time, our bank account details are:
Account Name: Karibu

For those who might like to make a regular monthly contribution (no amount is too small) please contact us -
there is a form to be organised.

of our community.
Please patronise those who help others.
